The burning bush

Quick
~3 seconds411 words
Exodus 3 is the burning bush chapter — the moment God breaks His silence and calls Moses from a shepherd's ordinary workday into the mission that will define his life. God reveals His name, declares His plan to deliver Israel from Egypt, and commissions a reluctant Moses to confront Pharaoh. Moses is tending the flock of his father-in-law Jethro near Horeb, the mountain of God, when he notices a bush that burns without being consumed (3:2–3). The angel of the LORD appears in the flame, and God calls Moses by name. He commands Moses to remove his sandals because the ground is holy (3:5). God identifies Himself as "the God of your father — the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac and the God of Jacob," and Moses hides his face in fear (3:6). God declares that He has seen Israel's misery, heard their cries, and is sending Moses to bring them out of Egypt (3:7–10). Moses protests — "Who am I that I should go to Pharaoh?" — and God answers not with a list of Moses' qualifications but with a promise: "I will be with you" (3:11–12). When Moses asks for God's name, God answers with the famous declaration: "I AM WHO I AM" (Ehyeh asher Ehyeh), telling Moses to say "I AM has sent me to you" (3:14).

The Difference

What you're reading now vs. what you could be reading

Same verse. Completely different experience.

A typical Bible app

1 In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.

2 And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep.

3 And God said, Let there be light: and there was light.

That's it. Just text. No context. No connections. No depth.

Verse Scholar

1 In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.

Hebrew: בְּרֵאשִׁית בָּרָא אֱלֹהִים — bara (created) used exclusively with God as subject

Cross-ref: John 1:1-3 · Hebrews 11:3 · Psalm 33:6 · Isaiah 45:12

Scholar: “Heavens and earth” form a merism — a figure using two extremes to encompass everything in between

2 And the earth was without form, and void...

Hebrew: תֹהוּ וָבֹהוּ (tohu vavohu) — primordial chaos; same phrase appears only in Jer 4:23 and Isa 34:11

What People Are Saying

Built for serious students of Scripture

I prepared a 3-part sermon series in under an hour. The Scholar-level exegesis caught connections I would have missed after days of manual study.

Senior Pastor

15 years in ministry

The original language parsing is genuinely useful — not dumbed down, but not impenetrable either. I use it for my Greek exegesis papers alongside Logos.

Seminary Student

M.Div candidate

My small group was stuck in surface-level discussion. The Deep Dive content gave us actual substance to dig into. We went 30 minutes overtime because the conversation was so rich.

Small Group Leader

Wednesday night Bible study

The cross-reference system found a typological connection between Exodus 17 and John 19 that I'd never seen in 25 years of teaching.

Bible Teacher

Adult Sunday School

I installed it on my iPad and use it every morning. The depth of analysis keeps me coming back — I've been in the Word every day for 3 months straight.

Daily Reader

Retired, 68 years old

Finally, a Bible study tool that respects the text. No fluff, no filler. Just rigorous scholarship made accessible.
